Quilting FAQs
Quilting FAQs

How much does it cost to have a quilt machine quilted?
The cost depends on the size of your quilt and the complexity of the quilting. We charge by the square foot, with a minimum charge of $50. This includes quilting and thread. We stock more than 100 colours of threads to choose from. We encourage you to bring in your quilt top for a free estimate; starting at $3.50/square foot.

When will my quilt be finished?
Based on the number of quilts in our queue, we will be able to advise you of the current lead time to have your quilt top quilted. Lead time is normally several weeks to several months. Wait time will also vary depending on the type of quilting required - custom or pantograph. When you bring your top in you will be assigned the next available date, and we work at suiting your needs.

Do I need to provide backing and batting?
At our studio we carry three types of batting including: 100 % cotton; 50/50 bamboo & cotton; and Hobbs Heirloom (80 cotton/20 polyester). Please provide your own backing, which must be 4 inches larger than your top, both vertically and horizontally.

What happens when I bring my quilt in?
When you bring your quilt top in to us, we will walk you through the quilting contract. We'll measure your quilt to confirm dimensions; help you choose backing and batting, as required; show you the thread options; and discuss your ideas for the quilting design. Finally, your top will be assigned a quilting date (if you have not already reserved one). We will be happy to answer any questions you have about your quilt top or the quilting process!

What quilting designs can I choose from?
We offer a wide range of quilting options, from stitch-in-the-ditch, meandering, to custom quilting and a few edge to edge pantographs. (A pantograph is a line-drawing of repeating quilt design.)
