What is Art Therapy?
Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy involving the encouragement of free self-expression to identify issues, experiences, and process thoughts, emotions and behaviours. Blooming Life helps clients find healing and resilience through expressive therapy.
Art therapy and expressive art therapy include the use of drawing, painting, creative writing, poetry, movement, music and more. At times we may move from one art form to another to see if there are any shifts and changes that occur. By engaging in play and art, we enter into the world of the imagination, where we can uncover possibilities that were not evident in our daily lives. We can find resources that we did not know we had and possible solutions previously hidden from us.
You don’t need a background in the arts, only a willingness and openness to creation. We will utilize creativity and art-making in a way that is low-skill high-sensitivity model, where we focus on process rather than product and make time to respond to our art work in a way that is supportive and sensitive. Blooming Life helps clients find healing and resilience through creativity and expression.
One does not need to be a talented artist to experience the benefits of art therapy. The goal is not necessarily to create an art masterpiece. Though it may seem different and unnatural at first the creative process can be one of the most rewarding aspects of creative expression as therapy. With the guidance of an art therapist, you should gradually, if not immediately, feel comfortable with this newfound form of expression.
